Data queried August 30, 2026. We will rerun this page once 200 quests have linked start and end sessions, which will make the lifespan numbers solid.
Quest advice is everywhere. Quest data is nowhere. Threadfall tracks every objective a campaign picks up, from the main arc to the favor owed to an innkeeper, which leaves us with 671 real quests across 32 campaigns and some numbers nobody has had before.
671 quests across 32 real campaigns through August 2026. Quests are detected by AI from actual play and curated by the GM, so the unit here is what the table treated as an objective, not what a module's back cover promised. Outcomes (complete or failed) are the table's own call. Self-selected sample, one platform; the usual warning applies.
Among campaigns that track quests, the median has logged 13 over its life so far, and the most quest-dense campaign has logged 145. About 7 percent are background threads the GM planted to pay off later, and 2 percent are tied to one specific character's personal story.
Snapshot the active campaigns and the median party holds 7.5 open quests at once; the busiest tenth carry 20 or more. The overloaded quest journal is not a planning failure, it is the resting state of the game. If your table feels pulled in seven directions, your table is exactly average.
433 quests have a recorded outcome: 391 completed, 42 failed. That is a 9.7 percent failure rate. Parties finish what they start far more often than not, which is precisely why the failures become the stories the table retells.
Only 46 quests so far have both their introduction and their resolution linked to specific sessions, so treat this section as a first sketch. Within that sample the median quest resolves within about two sessions and 26 calendar days, a third (15 of 46) resolve in the very session they appear, the 90th percentile stretches to about 12 sessions, and the longest ran 28. One bias to name: short quests are the easiest to link end to end, so long arcs are underrepresented until more data lands.

Quests are AI-detected from live transcripts and session records, then edited, merged, and resolved by the GM, so counts reflect what tables actually tracked. Outcome labels are the table's judgment. Lifespans use the link between a quest and the sessions that introduced and resolved it, which only 46 quests carry so far; that subsample skews short and the page says so. The median campaign in our data has logged 13 quests over its life so far, and the most quest-dense campaign has logged 145. Quests here means everything the table treats as an objective: main arcs, side jobs, personal errands, and mysteries.
Seven or eight, typically. Active campaigns in our data hold a median of 7.5 open quests at a time, and the busiest tenth carry 20 or more. If your party feels pulled in seven directions at once, that is not a planning failure. That is the normal condition of the game.
About 1 in 10. Of the 433 quests in our data with a recorded outcome, 391 completed and 42 failed: a 9.7 percent failure rate. Parties mostly finish what they start, which makes the failures memorable.
Early numbers from a small sample (46 quests with both start and end linked to sessions): the median quest resolves within about two sessions and 26 calendar days, a third resolve in the same session they appear, and the longest ran 28 sessions. Short quests are easiest to link end to end, so long arcs are underrepresented here.
